Gouritsmond is the ideal coastal holiday hideaway from the world, with the beach and river mouth forming the focal point of the town. Gourits (as commonly called by the locals) is a great spot to indulge in all sorts of water activities – fishing; rubber ducking; surfing and swimming. The town of Gouritsmond is a fishing Mecca – well known amongst camping communities – and also home to a diverse selection of fauna and flora, with 4 distinct diversities being found in the town.

At Gouritsmond swimming is safe but the tide can sometimes be a bit dangerous, so visitors should be careful! Gouritsmond is close to Mossel Bay, where visitors can go for their shopping at the big supermarkets and shopping malls.

The Gouritsmond beach is ideal for swimming, surfing, sun bathing or just strolling to the river mouth. A few things of interest to look out for are the Fynbos, kiewiete (Cape plover) and the endangered black oyster catcher. For those who enjoy a good hike, there is a unique coastal walking trail from Mossel Bay (through Gourits) to Gourikwa Nature Reserve.

Camping is a popular form of accommodation in Gouritsmond. At the Gourits Rivier Mond (Gourits river-mouth) there is a caravan park, a camping site, and a hotel.
